Yes — building code requires a code-sized egress window (minimum opening dimensions and sill height) in any room used as a bedroom, for fire escape. We cut and install these as part of the renovation.
My basement has a musty smell — can it still be finished?
Usually, but we need to find and fix the moisture source first (grading, weeping tile, or a crack) before finishing over it. Covering a moisture problem with drywall makes it worse, not better.
Can you turn my basement into a legal rental suite?
